Through shadows of its surrounding trees, a patch of dandelions shine through—coloring the grass with gold; their bloom and abundance indicate the start of spring.
Dandelions, in many places, are classified as weeds: undesirable, unwanted, growing where it shouldn’t. To me, they’re flowers; one of the first that brings color to the ground; grown from seeds in the wind blown by people as simple pleasures; unwavering in spite of those who want to get rid of them.
Taken during the spring break (April 5-12, 2023), this patch caught my attention as it was on the path I take everyday to and from work and school. I really enjoy seeing the flowers bloom every year in spring and I have always liked seeing the dandelions and the scent of them in the air. The idea of dandelions transforming so drastically just to disperse seeds that get carried from the wind is unique and shows one of the many ways a human can interact with a plant.
