Dear Professor von Uhl,
Thank you for holding that brainstorming session in class last week as it has helped with the assignment process. I am writing to you today to talk about my goals and dreams with my chosen major of mechanical engineering.
I chose mechanical engineering as my major because, originally, I desired to be a marine biologist; however, money plays a big part in what I want for my career goals. This caused me to path towards mechanical engineering as it’s a broad, in-demand, and well-paying career; meaning in the future I’d be able to work in the field of helping marine life via building machines, testing, or others. To strive towards that future, I have returned to college and am aiming to complete my studies sufficiently and efficiently.
Watching those deep-sea underwater research videos online made me realize how important engineering is in marine exploration. Engineers design and build with elements- such as water depth, sample collection, visibility, and many others- in mind. With how far engineering has improved from just the past few decades, there are endless possibilities with how engineering will help advance the state of marine exploration and research of the vast unknown sea.
The growth of engineering is a huge leap forward in knowledge in not only marine exploration but also many other aspects of the world and universe as we know it. As such, I believe that mechanical engineering is a career for me that will satisfy both my passion and needs.
Sincerely,

Lawrence Pak
